Derwent - Gauge (ex-demo)

  • An abandoned pressure gauge found in the mud on the banks of Derwent Water sounds like an unlikely source of inspiration, but that’s where the design for the Derwent Gauge was born. Taking its blue and red palette from the traditional design of the industrial instrument, the Derwent Gauge features polished pitch-profile hands which provide instant readability among the fine, intricate lines of the inner and outer second, minute and hour tracks.

Harking back to the dress watches of the 50s and 60s, the Derwent features a hi-dome custom acrylic crystal. Case backs in this era were typically solid, but the Gauge caseback provides a return to the 21st Century, with a small porthole displaying the balance wheel smoothly oscillating back and forth; a small glimpse into the heart of a watch which has a big story to tell.

The Beating Heart

We use hand-wound mechanical movements in all of our timepieces. The beating heart of the Derwent is the harmonious Miyota 6T33, which was selected not only for its reliability, but also for its incredibly accurate time keeping.

A quick peek at the case-back and you'll find a porthole displaying the balance wheel smoothly oscillating back and forth, keeping accurate time whilst offering a quick visual indicator of your Derwent's current power status.

Surrounding the port hole window is a sunburst radial pattern which is a nod to the Japanese machine whirring within.

A Nod to Tradition

The Derwent is a watch designed with nods to a few traditional timepieces whilst offering a more contemporary touch. A diameter of 38mm harks back to the dress watches of the 50's and 60's, with the hi-dome custom acrylic crystal also lending itself to the classic aesthetic. The dial is more contemporary with a subtle domed form leading outwards to an angled chapter ring, which draws the eye in towards the dial. The simple pitched profile hands afford the maximum readability whilst continuing the traditional yet contemporary feel.

The Devil's In The Detail

Inspired by our original Cherwell box, we've designed a single tier box especially for the Derwent. The box, made from 3mm card and wrapped in lovely Fedrigoni paper, contains a single drawer with its own precision-milled dense foam cavity to hold your timepiece securely in place. All of this is enveloped in the Fedrigoni clad box, imprinted with a clear logo and finished with a pristine band with our embossed crown icon. Inside you'll find a traditional letter-pressed insert telling you a little more about your Derwent.
We're proud to offer the Derwent with a 12-month movement guarantee - if anything does go wrong we're on hand to repair or replace it for you.
We ship our watches worldwide using DHL - once your order's dispatched we'll email your tracking number so you can keep an eye on its progress.
If you aren't completely satisfied with your timepiece you have 30 days to return it to us for a full refund (must be unworn and in the original packaging).
