The Haskell Global will be the first of many watches that highlight the issues we're facing as a global community, and positively contribute to mitigate them. We will be contributing £10,000 through sales of the Haskell Global to charitable and sustainability causes that can make a bigger impact than we can alone. If we do this, as well as continually assess our own legacy, by-product emissions and sustainability, we can be part of the drive towards reducing and reversing the negative impact on the environment. It is our children and their children who will have to face the very real prospect of a world in crisis, if we do nothing. And that is just too important to ignore, because we don't inherit the earth from our ancestors.
We borrow it from our children.
The most critical issue facing us all right now is the threat of climate change, through global warming, the abundance of plastics in our oceans and deforestation to make way for agriculture. These three issues, all intrinsically linked, are both immediately important and often viciously polarising. The mention of melting ice-caps and rising oceans has the power to provoke enthusiastic discussion or aggressive denial, and there’s rarely a reaction in-between.
But the fact, as hotly debated as it is, remains - climate change is real. And it stands to reason that this issue has become too important for us to ignore. We feel that we should be doing what we can, in our small, limited power, to help. We think it’s time to be part of the solution and the Haskell Global will help us to do that.
THE BEATING HEART
We have specified the dependable Swiss Made Sellita SW-215-1 manual winding mechanical movement for the Global. It’s a petite movement at 25.6mm in diameter, a mere sliver at 3.35mm thick and when fully wound will run for over 40 hours.
Despite this small frame, the SW-215-1 still beats at a brisk 28,800 bph; the running seconds hand moves around the dial at 8 beats per second. Compared to a quartz watch running at one beat per second, the Haskell displays a gloriously buttery smooth sweep to its running second hand. Evidence enough that something special ticks within.
The devil's in the detail
We've printed subtle, almost imperceptible longitude and latitude lines on the main dial - a continued theme from our special edition Haskells, and one that acts as a powerful reminder of the globe and the impact we, as humans, have on it.
We’ve also kept the alternative MWC branding and chamfered date window, in an effort to keep the Global looking and wearing unobtrusive but functional.
We Don't Inherit the Earth
This edition of the Haskell collection is a little different - the case is matte blasted to give it a rock-like appearance - the smooth surface highlighting the geometry of the Haskell design beautifully. On the caseback we've featured a map of the world centred on the prime meridian (Greenwich), but with one small difference - the oceans stand proud of the land - a reminder of the rising ocean levels as a result of climate change. And finally, the engraving around the perimeter is a statement of what the Global stands for, and it really does resonate with us here at MWC:
We don’t inherit the Earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children.
Sweating the smAll stuff
The Global comes in our new watch box - a monolithic black cuboid which opens up to reveal the beautifully crafted booklet, detailing how the Haskell came to be. Lifting the booklet reveals yet more; the letterpressed, hand-stamped collector's card sits within a precision cut recess and displays a quick reference guide on the reverse. The tray that holds the booklet and card can be removed revealing your Haskell Global below; don't forget to look on the underside of the tray, for it holds the phrase so deeply connected to MWC.

HOW MARLOE BECAME AN ESTABLISHED BRITISH BRAND
In 2015, a simple twist of fate brought together the two founders of Marloe Watch Company. Oliver & Gordon were intrigued by design, the slow-living counter culture, and beautiful mechanical watches - within a year, the first Marloe watch was created, and Marloe Watch Company was born.
Marloe design watches that they’re proud of, made by manufacturing partners who over the years have also become friends. Honest watches made with care and attention - unpretentious, proven quality.
