The Sceptre S2: An Evolution, Not a Replacement

The Sceptre S2: An Evolution, Not a Replacement

Marloe has entered a new and exciting phase of iteration.

For the past decade, we’ve been driven by the pursuit of the new - the fresh, the bold, the exciting - sometimes moving swiftly forward and leaving behind foundations that were carefully and thoughtfully laid. As we reached our Decade in Time, it became clear that not every story was finished. Some deserved revisiting, refining, and celebrating anew.

The Sceptre was the first of those stories.

A Foundation Worth Revisiting

The Solent set the tone: purposeful, capable, and unashamedly robust. The Sceptre followed, sharing its architectural DNA while pushing further - more capable, more confident, more at home beneath the waves. The Tay completed a trio of what we affectionately describe as our “ocean furniture” watches, and - true to our nature - we moved on.

But time brings perspective.

The Sceptre lingered in our minds, both for its inimitable aesthetic and for its formidable specification: 200 metres of water resistance, a bi‑directional bezel, a screw‑down crown, and an exhibition caseback. It was a watch with real depth - technically and visually - and one that invited a simple but powerful question:

What if we could improve upon something that has already blazed a trail?

What if the bezel could be updated, making timing clearer and more intuitive?

What if the richly domed sapphire - full of character and reflection - gave way to a more focused, flatter crystal?

What if we applied everything we’ve learned about dial manufacture, case construction, and - crucially - our new in‑house assembly capabilities?

What if we allowed ourselves to iterate, rather than reinvent?

The result of those questions is the Sceptre S2.

Built Stronger - Built Smarter

While the Sceptre S2 retains the spirit and silhouette of its predecessor, almost every element has been refined.

The case construction has been discreetly strengthened, with increased wall thickness and thicker sapphire crystals throughout - reinforcing both the pressure resistance of the case and the protection afforded to its transparent apertures. The watch remains rated to 20 ATM / 200 metres, but does so with greater confidence.

The screw‑down caseback features a mechanical seal and twelve tool positions, allowing the entire dial module - movement, hands, and dial - to be removed from the rear of the case. It’s a construction designed for serviceability, longevity, and ease of maintenance.

The bi‑directional bezel that defined the original Sceptre remains, but it has been re‑engineered with greater intent. The new scale incorporates a 5‑minute regatta countdown, followed by a 10‑minute scale extending to 30 minutes - enhancing legibility and practical timing without sacrificing the bold, rifled grip that made the original so distinctive.

A flatter sapphire crystal replaces the previous domed profile, reducing reflection and sharpening the overall presence, while preserving durability under real‑world conditions.

The crown - generously proportioned and designed for wet or gloved hands - features an improved screw‑down action that feels deliberate, positive, and reassuring. Water resistance is maintained, and more importantly, confidence is increased.

The sharply angled lugs remain, pointing decisively downward to hug the wrist. Faceted edges and a subtly polished top surface ensure the case still catches the light, balancing tool‑watch purpose with considered design.

The dial is where the Sceptre S2 evolves most visibly - and most meaningfully.

Simplicity is deceptively hard to achieve. Too restrained, and it risks blandness; too complex, and clarity is lost. For the S2, balance was key.

A raised outer chapter ring carries the printed minute track, while a lower central section features bold applied markers set atop a deeply etched, textured surface. The result is depth without distraction - legible, tactile, and visually compelling.

Built by Hand, in-house

For the first time, the Sceptre is entirely hand‑assembled in‑house by the workshop team.

This represents a significant milestone for us. Bringing assembly in‑house has allowed us to refine tolerances, streamline processes, and elevate quality control - every watch passes through the same hands, with the same care and intent. It’s a quieter achievement rather than a bold design flourish, but one that matters deeply to how the S2 feels on the wrist and performs over time.

This is Marloe maturing - not slowing down, but building with greater focus.

Beneath The Surface

The world beneath the waves is formidable - challenging, complicated, and rarely forgiving. The original Sceptre built upon the Solent’s framework to thrive in that environment. The Sceptre S2 crystallises it.

It is improved, yet undoubtedly its own watch. Big, bold, bright - and unmistakably modern Marloe.

We’re immensely proud of it, and we hope you feel that confidence every time it’s on your wrist.
