Atlantic - Fortune

  • For the Fortune we have used simplicity and cleanliness for the dial, along with sunken, contrasting lateral sub-dials, applied 12 index and name plate, and raised outer chapter ring. The hour and minute hands of the Fortune are sword profiles, with a ridge running along the middle and polished to a mirror shine. This gives us contrast for the hands to reflect the environment, catching light on either of the facets.

Each sub-dial features one of two hand styles - the running seconds hand matches the polished main hour and minute hands. For the Chronoscope functions, the sub-dial and timed second hands are painted in a separate style to differentiate them. It’s subtle and perhaps, to some, imperceptible. But it’s there for a reason, and that’s the MWC way.

Pioneering Spirits

To soar into the sky and float aloft in the wind, peering down on the world below, knowing that, if you so wished, you could touch the stars.

Welcome to the Atlantic Chronoscope, borne from a love of flight, inspired by the pioneering spirits that risked life and limb to achieve it.

Modern Day

The Atlantic range traverses flight through the ages, from the first one-way hop across the Atlantic Ocean by Alcock & Brown, to the first solo Atlantic crossing by Lindbergh, each colourway celebrates each milestone.

The Fortune takes inspiration from East Fortune Airfield, the launchpad for the R34’s journey across the Atlantic, which is now a racetrack. With its race car colouring and simplified dial textures, the Fortune celebrates the modern day use of this historical location.

Transatlantic Crossing

Inspired by the advent of lighter-than-air powered flight, the Atlantic has been designed through a process of deep research into the time period when flight was still a concept alien to most. In particular, we have focused on the R34 airship, the craft with so much potential and possibility attached to it from manufacture through to maiden flight. The R34 went on to become the first airborne craft to complete, without incident, a double-transatlantic crossing.

The Beating Heart

For the Atlantic we have specified the inimitable, beefy powerhouse that is the Seiko NE88a. This collection of exquisitely machined and finished parts is the flagship of Seiko’s movement range, offering the very best of the Japanese marque’s abilities as a movement manufacturer. The NE88a offers us both an increased power reserve of 45 hours and a timing mechanism built within the chassis to offer a 12-hour chronoscope function. The NE88a features a date complication, both automatic winding and manual winding as well as hacking, quick-set date, shock protection and a very respectable accuracy for keeping precise time.

Numbers with Meaning

The Atlantic comes engraved with sequential numbering, so you know exactly which one you have. You can either select your number from the available list, or if you would like to enquire into a specific number please don't hesitate to ask.

Sweating The Small Stuff

The Atlantic comes in our bold, stark watch box - a monolithic black cuboid opens up to reveal the beautifully crafted, bespoke booklet, detailing how the Atlantic came to be. Lifting the booklet reveals yet more; the letterpressed, hand-stamped collector's card sits within a precision cut recess and features a quick reference guide on the reverse. The tray that holds the booklet and card can be removed with the black ribbon revealing the Atlantic below; don't forget to look on the underside of the tray, for it holds the motto permeating through all of MWC.

The Devil's In The Detail

Before dial comes movement, and this movement is a big one, not just in spec and performance, but also in size. This size gives us the layout of the dial, the dimensions to which we must work. It has paid dividends, for the Atlantic dial is one that has taken years to perfect. A number of iterations, adjustments and complete do-overs have led to what is before you today; a real, bonafide exercise in proportion and precision.
We're proud to offer the Atlantic with a 12-month movement guarantee - if anything does go wrong we're on hand to repair or replace it for you.
We ship our watches worldwide using DHL - once your order's dispatched we'll email your tracking number so you can keep an eye on its progress.
