The Devil's In The Detail
The Spirit takes on the traditional “Flieger” style aviation watch, but applies a raw aluminium aesthetic, inspired by the Spirit of St. Louis aircraft that carried Lindbergh over the Atlantic. The design of the numerals on the Flyer also takes direct inspiration from the altimeter from the R34 airship, with the tangential 4-8 numbers.
The Spirit features sword-profile hands with high-contrast paints to maximise legibility and ease of time-telling. Each sub-dial features one of two hand styles - the running second hand matches the main hour and minute hand finish, whilst for the Chronoscope functions, the sub-dial and timed second hands are painted in a separate style to differentiate the two functions of the Atlantic timepiece. It’s subtle and perhaps, to some, imperceptible. But it’s there for a reason, and that’s the Marloe way.
Radial sub dials at 3 and 9 complement the sleek dial, and a subtle yet eye-catching date window completes this classic design.
The Spirit also features glowing markings by way of Superluminova C3 luminescent paint - which lights up like a cockpit dial.
Faceted bezel meets brushed, angular edges and brightly polished, smooth steel surfaces; the design of the case allows the Atlantic to nestle into the wrist thanks to the aggressively angled lugs, each one faceted to catch the light.
The inimitable, beefy powerhouse that is the NE88a offers both a power reserve of 45-hours and a timing mechanism built within the chassis to give a 12-hour chronoscope function.
Our watches are produced in small batches and each watch is finished with a unique serial number - which you can choose using the drop down list above.
“My wife bought the Spirit for me as a present, a wonderful surprise. This is the latest of many Marloe watches I'm proud to own. The quality is incredible & the styling amazing.”
“To say this is a beautiful watch would be an understatement, it is in truth a stunning timepiece both in aesthetics and function - a truly classic pilot's watch.”
“I had been admiring the Spirit for 10 months as I have quite small wrists and was concerned it would be too big. However although it is big, the dial itself suits a small wrist well.”
Spirit of St. Louis
The Atlantic range traverses flight through the ages, from the first one-way hop across the Atlantic Ocean by Alcock & Brown, to the first solo Atlantic crossing by Lindbergh.
The Spirit takes inspiration from the Spirit of St. Louis aircraft that carried Lindbergh over the Atlantic in 1927, on the first solo nonstop transatlantic flight from Long Island, New York, to Paris, France.
To soar into the sky and float aloft in the wind, peering down on the world below, knowing that, if you so wished, you could touch the stars.
Welcome to the Atlantic Chronoscope, borne from a love of flight, inspired by the pioneering spirits that risked life and limb to achieve it.
The case of the Atlantic measures 43mm in diameter with 22mm lugs - giving the watch great presence on the wrist. From caseback to crystal the watch measures 15mm thick, whilst the 50mm lug-to-lug sizing complements the case perfectly.
