Haskell - Field Standard

  • British Design. Swiss Made.

The colourway of the Field Standard is inspired, purely and simply, by the British outdoors. With each colour carefully selected from British Standard Colours, it’s a thoroughly patriotic take on our natural habitat. The dial is a deep Forest Green; bold, simple, yet serving as a perfect base for the contrasting tones of the sandy second hand, hour and minute markers, the polished stainless steel hour and minute hands, the pop of red at the tip of the second hand, and the crisp white numerals.

Each striking in its own right, the elements come together to form the overall impression that the Field Standard is an instrument rather than an object; compass-like, completely at home in the great outdoors.

Our Ode to the Spirit of Great Britain

The Haskell Field Standard is a celebration of the spirit of adventure, set right here on our doorstep; in Great Britain. It’s a nod to drizzly mountain treks, muddy wellington boots and escapades carried out not so far from home; from off-roading and seeking uncharted territory with just a compass and a Thermos, to defrosting by the pub fireside.

There’s no need to travel far afield to test one’s endurance; to seek, to find, and to adventure. This very special field watch is our ode to the spirit of Great Britain.

British Exploration

On the 1st November 1911 Captain Robert Falcon Scott set out on the Terra Nova Expedition to reach the South Pole. Eleven weeks later the naval officer became the first British explorer to ever reach the pole, but sadly perished on his return journey.

The world was informed of the tragedy when Terra Nova reached land in New Zealand over a year later. Within days, Scott became a celebrated hero and national icon.

The Haskell was inspired by such British exploration, and is named after the Haskell Strait, the ocean passage which Scott crossed as he set off from Ross Island in Antarctica.

The Beating Heart

We have specified the dependable Swiss Made Sellita SW-215-1 manual winding mechanical movement for the Haskell. It’s a petite movement at 25.6mm in diameter, a mere sliver at 3.35mm thick and when fully wound will run for over 40 hours.

Despite this small frame, the SW-215-1 still beats at a brisk 28,800 bph; the running seconds hand moves around the dial at 8 beats per second. Compared to a quartz watch running at one beat per second, the Haskell displays a gloriously buttery smooth sweep to its running second hand. Evidence enough that something special ticks within.

Numbers with Meaning

The Field Standard comes embossed with sequential numbering, so you know exactly which Haskell you have. If you would like to enquire into a specific number please don't hesitate to ask.

Intrepid Souls

Case backs are our hidden calling card, and we make a big deal about them. For the Field Standard, we have celebrated the glory of the Great British outdoors and the intrepid souls who adventure and explore within it. Featuring an etched compass design on the central dome, encircling the bold engraved emblem of the Field Standard, the case back is immediately striking yet refined; a miniature example of the fundamentals of British design.

The Devil's In The Detail

The Haskell Field Edition comes in our brand new watch box. A monolithic black cuboid opens up to reveal the beautifully crafted booklet, detailing how the Haskell came to be. Lifting the booklet reveals yet more; the letterpressed, hand-stamped collector's card sits within a precision cut recess and displays a quick reference guide on the reverse. The tray that holds the booklet and card can be removed revealing the Haskell below; don't forget to look on the underside of the tray, for it holds the phrase so deeply connected to MWC.
